Sustainable Schools Alliance

Happy New Year to one and all! And what does a New Years bring, but a new initiative! On the 5th January Think Global, SEEd (Sustainability and Environmental Education) and NCB (National Childrens Bureau) invited interested parties to come together to discuss the remit of the Sustainable Schools Alliance.

This has been rapidly pulled together in the wake of the government’s decision to pull the plug on Sustainable Schools, and, as an active supporter of Sustainable Schools and as a member organisation of both Think Global and SEEd, we were very keen to be there.

As expected, the meeting was very well attended, with a large majority of representatives from schools, development education centres or other third sector organisations. Listening to colleagues speak it was - as ever - clear that demonstrating a positive impact on the sustainability of the school campus comes a whole easier than truly blood-streaming education for sustainable development. For all the excellent achievements that Sustainable Schools inspired, much still needs to be done in this domain. There is every reason to believe that Think Global’s membership of the Alliance’s Advisory Group will hasten this process.
